Each month, one of Lord of Life's pastors shares a reflection on the front page of our congregational newsletter. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant... always relevant.
There's a rhythm to life in the church. Our worship life together is dominated by festivals telling the story of God's great acts for the world (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost). And then there's the long green season of "Sundays after Pentecost," roughly June through November. When summer ends and fall is around the corner that green season builds to its crescendo. That's really true at Lord of Life Church where we are "falling forward" for sure!

You may have noticed the joyful laughter of children in our worship services!? Only the early 8:00 Contemplation Worship is immune ... and it not entirely! The nursery is crowded even during the summer! Last Sunday four of our six ushers at 11:15 were holding a child in their arms.

I’m back. And glad to be!
But I’m not the same. And as I shared on February 14th in my sermon, neither are you. God has been at work in, through and around us. We have been blessed by experiences of God’s grace, and we are changed by them.

The future can fill us with fear. Even knowing the holy history of God’s goodness, the uncertainty of the future often incites anxiety. August in particular, a month of looking forward, can be stressful.

A funny thing happened when we went to worship in San Diego last month. The first Sunday we gathered with the community at Christ Lutheran Church in Mission Beach. It was a genuinely welcoming, vibrant, Lutheran worship experience.
