...Yes, We Really Mean It
- There's a difference between "tolerating" and accepting.
- There's a difference between just having a welcoming statement and being a community that lives out welcoming as a part of its identity.
At Lord of Life, we really mean it when we say that we accept all people as part of our community. It’s where the rubber meets the road. We're called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Discipleship is not easy, it's not black and white, it's not law. Discipleship calls us to live in the tension of discernment, to know that none of us has all the answers; and that God -- for as much as we might sometimes think we understand God -- is capable of showing extravagant grace, radical inclusion, and relentless compassion in such abundance that all we can do is stand in awe.
We cannot follow this path of discipleship alone, and the fact is that we were never meant to. We at Lord of Life think of each other as companions on the journey. We are called to live in community, a neighborhood of relationships connecting us all with each other and with God. If you find yourself feeling alone, feeling disconnected from God, or marginalized by the church, know that our doors are open for you to join us on the journey. We accept you as you are... really.
And yes, that means lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender folks too -- we've been a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation since 2002. Our mission is to reach people with the love of Jesus Christ. All people, regardless of age, race, socioeconomic situation, gender identity, sexual orientation, marriage/partnership status, or cultural background are welcome at Lord of Life. As a Lutheran church, we want to extend a non-judgmental hand of grace and peace to you. We believe all people are genuinely and entirely loved children of God.
